Getting To Zero

Are you part of a team? Of course you are. You may just not realize it! You have team members all around you. The ones supporting you through life. It can be the family and friends closest to you, but it is also the neighborhood grocery store, car repair shop and your bank or credit union, for example. They are all working together with you to keep you moving forward in life.

Let's talk about your bank account. You have one right? Did you know not everyone has a bank account? Now, just where are they storing their money? Hopefully not under mattresses or hidden in secret compartments in the wall. We have all heard the horror stories of that money never being found again. Although it is fun to find hidden cash in that coat pocket or dresser drawer.

Back to the accounts. Why don't they - or even you - have an account? It may come down to fear or concerns or simply not wanting to pay extra fees, especially if you feel you are surrounded by personal debt.

Same thing with a personal credit card -- some people don't have one, and it makes buying something online harder -- whether it's Amazon or Doordash.

Personal debt surrounds a lot of us! It isn't because we are bad people. Life and bills happen. It would be nice to just ignore it all sometimes, right? Sadly, most of us don't have the luxury of ignoring our bills and debt. Some debt is healthy, and reasonable like a car loan or a mortgage, some debt isn't, because you are treading water or falling behind.  The good news, is you don't have to work on your personal debt alone. Instead we can work together on that personal debt. It is where we become a part of your team, just like the grocer or the mechanic.

So how can we help? We try to be transparent and offer advice on both sides of the conversation about debt -- trying to make collection agencies kinder and better at their job communicating with consumers, and help consumers with knowledge on what is legitimate debt, and what their rights are. We know the journey to $0 debt isn't an easy one. A lot of people are treading water in interest or loans, and aren't making headway to getting out of debt, but we encourage both creditors and consumers to continue forward with that goal in mind. We know that reshaping the collection industry won't happen overnight or immediately. It will take time, and we will all face bumps in the road, personally, or with our teams.

Don't forget, you don't have to take this on alone. If you are impacted by a bad collection experience, you want information our blog doesn't provide, or you are a creditor that wants to help their customer base, we'd love to talk with you about how we can help you with available options based on your situation.

All the best,

Jessica
